How does alcohol dependency happen?

There are many different reasons why a person can develop an unhealthy relationship with alcohol. These reasons can range from psychological to social to physiological. Research continues to be conducted into the different causes or potential causes of Alcohol Dependency. It is generally recognised that Alcohol Dependency comes as a result of one or several issues in a person’s life and their dependency on alcohol is a way of coping with the impact of these experiences or issues.

How can Psychotherapy help with Alcohol Dependency?

Psychotherapy provides a safe, non-judgemental space for you to explore the role that alcohol has played in your life and why you became dependent upon it. Once you have done the work of detoxing your body from alcohol, you can begin to work with a Psychotherapist to help your mind heal and resolve any underlying issues as well.

Can I see someone who is specifically trained in addiction/alcohol dependency?

Absolutely. We have counsellors who are trained and experienced working within addiction.
