What is Asperger’s Syndrome?
Asperger’s Syndrome (AS) is a condition which falls under the umbrella title of Autism Spectrum Disorder. AS is diagnosed by accounts of experience and observation of behaviour. It is generally recognised to be a physiological condition and not attributed to lived experience. People with AS may find some difficulties in navigating the neurotypical world as there can be many aspects of it which are not catered towards non neurotypical experiences.
Is counselling or psychotherapy suitable for someone diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome?
Yes, it is. Working with an experienced psychotherapist can help to allow you to begin to put in place tools for navigating, coping and managing your daily experiences. Psychotherapy can help to alleviate any anxiety you may be feeling as well as work to explore the cause of this stress/anxiety or any other distressing feelings you are experiencing.
