What is CBT ?
Cognitive Behavioural therapy is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings and behaviours are all interconnected and as such, one can influence the other. For example, the way we think about situations can affect the way we feel, and how we feel can often dictate how we behave. if you interpret a situation negatively then you might experience negative emotions as a result, and those bad feelings might then lead you to behave in a certain way.
How does CBT work?
After you discuss your presenting issues with your therapist, they will do a complete assessment of your thoughts, behaviours, feelings, and physical sensations and how they interrelate. They will then develop a tailored CBT therapeutic plan to help you overcome the problem or difficulty. CBT counselling will help you to cope day to day with overwhelming problems by breaking them down into smaller parts. It will help you to challenge your negative interpretations, emotions, and behaviours as well as change unhelpful thought processes. CBT often includes “homework” which you can practise outside of your weekly sessions.
Cognitive behavioural therapy is available in both our city centre locations. We have Therapists who work exclusively with CBT or combined with other Psychotherapeutic approaches depending on your specific needs.
